Lend Lease leads the way on sustainable procurement

International infrastructure solutions provider, Lend Lease, has announced a new initiative to increase the focus on sustainability when it chooses building materials suppliers.
The firm is introducing a new accreditation scheme to help to boost sustainability credentials throughout its procurement process. It is hoped that by leading the way, Lend Lease will start an industry-wide change in the way building materials are sourced for use in UK construction projects.
Lend Lease has developed BuildingConfidence, an accreditation scheme for suppliers, which will help building firms assess suppliers on a number of key issues at once. The industry has become increasingly interested in a range of issues, including sustainability, health and safety and ethical performance. Now, using the BuildingConfidence accreditation, the evaluation process will be much simpler.
Lend Lease started out by becoming the first contractor to receive FSC certification for its procurement process. This meant that 98 per cent of the timber materials that it sourced, such as Sterling OSB and Caberdek, were PEFC or FSC certified. The firm now wants to up this to 100 per cent and extend its certification policy to other building materials.
A large range of FSC-certified wood panel products are available from Norbord.
